Name Server

Back To Terms List

A name server consists of software running on a server and is authoritative. It translates domain names into IP addresses.  There are typically at least two name servers such as, ns1.loaddns.com and ns2.loaddns.com. In a basic unicast system the first name server listed is the primary name server and the second name server listed one is the backup if the first does not respond.
